Virginia announced Thursday that head coach Tony Bennett is retiring after spending 15 years with the Cavaliers.
Bennett and Virginia will host a press conference Friday.
The 55-year-old took the helm in 2009. Bennett led Virginia to 10 March Madness appearances, including an NCAA championship in 2019. He's the program's all-time leader in wins.
Bennett's decision to step away was not related to health, according to Jeff Goodman of The Field of 68.
Prior to his tenure in Charlottesville, Bennett spent three years with Washington State from 2006-09. He amassed a 433-169 coaching record over 18 seasons.
Bennett steps down less than three weeks before the Cavaliers open their season against Campbell.
