UConn, Hurley agree to new 6-year deal worth $31.5M
Connecticut and head coach Dan Hurley agreed to a new contract for the next six years worth $31.5 million, director of athletics David Benedict announced on Thursday.
"I am thrilled to have Dan Hurley leading our men's basketball program," Benedict said. "The work he and his staff have done over the past five years in rebuilding our program, which culminated in the Huskies once again reaching the pinnacle of college basketball, has been nothing short of remarkable. I know all of UConn Nation is ecstatic that Dan will continue to lead this program for the foreseeable future."
Hurley's new deal keeps him in Storrs through the 2028-29 season. It also includes incentives that increase the full amount of the contract based on athletic and academic success, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
"Coaching at the University of Connecticut is an honor and we intend to build on our success as one of the premier programs in college basketball," Hurley said.
The 50-year-old has been the coach of the Huskies since 2018 and helped the program win its fifth NCAA championship in 2023. Over five seasons, he has accumulated a 104-55 record and reached March Madness three times.
Prior to coaching UConn, Hurley was the bench boss at Wagner from 2010-12 and Rhode Island from 2012-18, leading the Rams to two appearances in the Big Dance.
The Huskies had three players declare for Thursday's NBA draft, including guards Jordan Hawkins and Andre Jackson Jr., and center Adama Sanogo, but they should put up a strong championship defense with center Donovan Clingan and forward Alex Karaban leading the way.
