North Carolina forward Brady Manek was ejected for elbowing Baylor's Jeremy Sochan in the head during Saturday afternoon's Round of 32 tilt.
Referees determined the contact to the head was excessive, assigning it a flagrant-2 foul, which leads to an automatic ejection.
Manek had a game-high 26 points before being tossed, and his loss made an immediate impact on the contest. Baylor immediately went on an 11-0 run after his dismissal and ended the game on a 38-13 push to erase a 25-point deficit and force overtime.
Despite missing Manek in the extra frame, the Tar Heels prevailed and eliminated the top-seeded Bears.
