North Carolina made its first splash in the 2023 recruiting class as five-star Simeon Wilcher announced his commitment to the school Friday.
The 6-foot-4 guard chose the Tar Heels over Nebraska and UConn. He also turned down a lucrative contract offer from Overtime Elite, a startup league for basketball prospects.
"My end goal was to always go to college because the money is going to come," Wilcher told Joe Tipton of ON3. "I don't play basketball just for the money ... I play because I love it."
Wilcher joins a North Carolina program starting fresh in 2021 after the retirement of longtime head coach Roy Williams.
Incoming bench boss Hubert Davis has yet to secure a five-star commitment for the 2022 class.
