With this spring's NCAA Tournament canceled and next college basketball season up in the air, West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins may have an idea: November Madness.
"Why don't we start the season off with the NCAA Tournament?" Huggins told 93.7 The Fan's "The Cook and Joe Show" recently. "They know who was in it and who was going to play who. They know where we were going to play."
Huggins also endorsed the idea of letting this year's seniors suit up in the games. "Our seniors have already graduated. It's not a big deal," he said. "Let them come back and play."
Such an idea would need to meet the NCAA's academic regulations, but Huggins pointed out that the existing March Madness format predominantly schedules games on weekends.
"It's going to take three weekends," he said. "Big deal. Really, kids aren't going to miss class that much. You're going to basically play on the weekends. ... (The NCAA) can get its money and distribute it to the schools. It solves a lot of problems."
Huggins' Mountaineers were ranked 24th nationally when the tournament was canceled, but they were only 9-9 in Big 12 play.
