Washington State is expected to name San Francisco's Kyle Smith the program's next head coach, CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein reports.
Smith amassed a 63-40 record in three seasons on the Dons' sideline. The 49-year-old previously spent six years as Columbia's head coach.
Washington State dismissed Ernie Kent earlier this month after five straight losing seasons, including an 11-21 record this past year. The program hasn't reached the NCAA Tournament since 2008 when Tony Bennett's squad featuring future NBA players Aron Baynes and Kyle Weaver advanced to the Sweet 16.
