Villanova head coach Jay Wright is accepting responsibility for his team's blowout 87-61 loss to Purdue in the Round of 32 on Saturday night.
Wright, who coached the Wildcats to national titles in two of the three previous years, believes a lack of preparation contributed to the lopsided result.
"We just, as a staff, did not get our guys - we tried to make them understand their ability to hit threes and execute their offense with great precision. And we just did not have them ready from the start," Wright told reporters after the game.
Villanova came into the matchup shooting 35.4 percent on 3-pointers this season, but it connected on just 11-of-38 (28.9 percent) from beyond the arc against Purdue.
On the other end of the floor, Purdue guard Carsen Edwards nearly outscored the entire Wildcats roster on his own with a 9-of-16 performance from 3-point territory en route to 42 points.
Wright was quite complimentary of his opponents in defeat. The 57-year-old believes the Boilermakers have enough talent to represent the South Region in the Final Four, according to The Athletic's Nicole Auerbach.
