Star freshman Zion Williamson suffered a mild knee sprain during the opening possession of Duke's 88-72 loss to rival North Carolina on Wednesday, Blue Devils head coach Mike Krzyzewski told reporters after the game.

Krzyzewski added that Williamson's knee is stable and a timetable for his return to action will be determined on Thursday.

"We have to come up with a game plan based on Zion not playing and hopefully he'll be back playing sometime in the near future," Krzyzewski said, according to the Washington Post's Ben Golliver.

The 18-year-old's left shoe broke apart when he slipped awkwardly around thirty seconds into the first half. He then limped off the court to the bench before eventually making his way to the locker room, where he was deemed unable to return.

Williamson entered the contest as the ACC's No. 2 scorer with 22.4 points per game. He had also been averaging 9.2 boards and 2.3 assists on 68.3 percent shooting from the field.

The NCAA tournament gets underway March 19, with the NBA Draft - in which Williamson is projected to be a top-three selection - scheduled for June 20.
