Jamill Jones, an assistant coach for Wake Forest's men's basketball program, has been charged with assault following an incident early Sunday morning, police said Thursday according to Larry Celona of the New York Post.
Florida resident Sandor Szabo was in Long Island City for his stepsister's wedding at the time. While intoxicated, the 35-year-old proceeded to bang on cars, including Jones' SUV, in search of his ride.
Jones then emerged from his vehicle and allegedly punched Szabo in the head, sending him crashing into the pavement.
Szabo later died from his injuries, according to the New York Post's David K. Li.
Jones turned himself in on Thursday morning while accompanied by his lawyer after fleeing the scene on Sunday.
A medical examiner's report will determine whether or not the punch was responsible for Szabo's death.
