The University of Connecticut is closing in on an agreement with Dan Hurley to fill its head coaching vacancy, a source told Jeff Jacobs and David Borges of the New Haven Register.

Hurley took over a Rhode Island program that was 8-21 in his first campaign and steadily built it into a powerhouse in the Atlantic 10 conference. This year, Rhode Island made the NCAA tournament for a second straight season and bowed out in the Round of 32 against Duke.

UConn's interest in Hurley had been reported in recent weeks, but the coach publicly distanced himself from any other jobs. Following his team's elimination Saturday, Hurley offered pointed comments to the media when asked about his future.

"Listen, I could give a crap about who's got an opening anywhere. I haven't thought about it for a second," Hurley said. "I could care less what any other school in the country that's looking for a coach or talks about me on social media - I could give two craps about that."

UConn fired head coach Kevin Ollie earlier this month after the Huskies finished under .500 and failed to reach the NCAA tournament for a second consecutive season. OIllie had been with the team for six years.
