Duke, Kansas, Kentucky lose on same day for 2nd time ever
For just the second time in the storied histories of Duke, Kansas, and Kentucky men's basketball, all three powerhouse programs lost on the same day, according to ESPN Stats & Info.
Despite each behemoth being ranked among the top 25 teams in the nation in the latest edition of the AP Poll, each fell to an unranked team Saturday.
Chris Mullins' St. John's Red Storm got the party started by upsetting coach Mike Krzyzewski's No. 4 Blue Devils 81-77 at Madison Square Garden. Next, Oklahoma State downed the No. 7 Jayhawks 84-79 on their own court. Finally, Missouri capped the rare trifecta with a 69-60 win over John Calipari's No. 21 Wildcats.
The only other time all three schools were vanquished on the same day was back on March 6, 2005 - back when collegiate greats like Duke's J.J. Redick and Shelden Williams, Kansas' Wayne Simien and Keith Langford, and Kentucky's Rajon Rondo and Chuck Hayes were on the losing sides.
