Air Force cancels all athletic events due to government shutdown
With partisan division halting Capitol Hill to a standstill, the Air Force Academy has canceled all athletics until further notice.
"Due to the government shutdown, all Air Force Academy home and away intercollegiate athletic events have been cancelled until further notice," a statement from the school reads. "In the event a solution is reached, the Academy will work to reschedule as many missed events as possible."
The Falcons' men's and women's basketball teams were set to take on Fresno State this weekend, and other sports including swimming, gymnastics, and hockey are also being impacted.
As far as the Navy and Army athletics programs are concerned, it appears to be business as usual. According to ESPN, neither uses government funding for athletics, unlike the Air Force.
