Columbia beats Longwood 87-77, behind Adlesh, Smith
FARMVILLE, Va. (AP) Quinton Adlesh scored 23 points with five 3-pointers, Mike Smith added 22 points with three 3-pointers and Columbia beat Longwood 87-77 on Tuesday night.
Lukas Meisner scored 12 points and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds for the Lions (1-1), who made 16-of-39 3-pointers and outrebounded the Lancers 39-28.
Down by 11 at halftime, Longwood closed to 65-63 on Isaiah Walton's 3-point play with 10:59 to go, but Columbia answered basket for basket and led 76-69 on Jake Killingsworth's 3. Meisner hit a 3 and sparked an 8-2 run and the Lions led 85-75 before Smith closed it out with three free throws.
The Lions ended the first half with an 8-0 run for a 46-35 at halftime lead in which they shot 48.5 percent from the floor, made nine 3-pointers and outrebounded Longwood 21-14. The Lancers were just 3-of-13 from long range in the half.
Walton scored a career-high 32 points on 11-of-17 shooting for Longwood (0-2).
