Lawyer: Louisville's Bowen cleared in corruption probe
Brian Bowen, the player at the center of the scandal that brought down Louisville head coach Rick Pitino, has been cleared by the FBI in a wide-ranging NCAA corruption investigation, his lawyer told the Courier Journal's Tim Sullivan.
"Brian and I are excited with this development and look forward to working with (Louisville) and the NCAA to clarify any concerns or issues that they have in furtherance of Brian's prompt return to competition," Jason Setchen said.
Bowen was suspended by the school after his name emerged in the investigation. A Louisville spokesperson confirmed to Sullivan that Bowen remains enrolled at the university but declined further comment.
Bowen, a 19-year-old five-star recruit out of La Porte, Ind., committed to Louisville under Pitino in June. However, federal documents allege Adidas gave $100,000 to Bowen to choose the Cardinals, at the request of a Cardinals coach. Pitino has subsequently been fired, along with Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich.
