For the first time in NCAA tournament history a 15-loss team earned an at-large big for the Big Dance when it was announced that Vanderbilt would be a No. 9 seed in the West Region on Selection Sunday.
The Commodores celebrated accordingly, erupting with applause after being named in the field of 68.
Vanderbilt will meet Northwestern in the tournament's opening round. The Wildcats are in the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history, and had their own emotional reaction to the announcement.
