The Utah Jazz finally secured a local D-League team.
The team announced Monday that the Idaho Stampede will be relocated to Salt Lake City and renamed the Stars.
The Jazz purchased the Stampede last spring, but the team remained in Idaho after announcing a one-year lease with CenturyLink Arena in Boise. The six-hour drive between the two cities made immediate call-ups difficult.
“We are thrilled to bring an NBA D-League team to Salt Lake City and in close proximity to the Utah Jazz," said Steve Starks, president of Larry H. Miller Sports & Entertainment. "The Salt Lake City Stars will provide further opportunities to promote the game of basketball, extend the reach of the Jazz, and engage with our surrounding communities in new ways."
