Knicks discussed adding Lawson, reportedly met with Wroten
With Jimmer Fredette's 10-day contract with the New York Knicks expiring Wednesday and the team reportedly not interested in re-signing him, they are looking elsewhere. One of the other names they've considered is free agent-to-be Ty Lawson, interim coach Kurt Rambis confirmed Tuesday.
"There's a lot of names that have been bantered about," Rambis told reporters before New York's 19-point home loss to the Portland Trail Blazers, according to ESPN's Ian Begley. "We don't know what's going to happen in the future but those are all names that have all come up."
The Knicks haven't reached out to Lawson, reports Begley, and another report by the New York Post's Marc Berman says the team has decided against signing the point guard, who will clear waivers Thursday evening. Lawson reached a buyout agreement with the Houston Rockets on Tuesday after a tumultuous and ineffective tenure.
Another backcourt player the Knicks are reportedly considering is Tony Wroten, going as far as to meet with the combo guard, according to the New York Daily News' Frank Isola. Wroten was waived by the Philadelphia 76ers on Christmas Eve.
Fredette has played five minutes of garbage time as a Knick, scoring seven points. New York has lost 15 of its last 18 games.
