Report: D-League star Jerrelle Benimon agrees to training camp deal with Cavs
The Cleveland Cavaliers have reached an agreement with D-league standout Jerrelle Benimon on a training camp deal, reports Chris Reichert of Upside Motor.
The 6-foot-8 Benimon played four seasons in the NCAA before going undrafted in 2014. That pushed Benimon to commit to the D-League, where he found great success, averaging 19.8 points, 11 rebounds, and 4.4 assists on 61.4 percent shooting from the floor.
His D-League success earned Benimon a 10-day contract with the Utah Jazz, where he played three minutes between two games.
This summer, Benimon latched on with the Cavaliers' Summer League squad where he put up 6.2 points and 7.6 rebounds in 19.6 minutes per game.
The Cavaliers have 12 guaranteed contracts on the books, with another two spots likely going to Sasha Kaun and Tristan Thompson. That leaves a slight chance that Benimon could remain with the club for the season, though the odds are decidedly slim.
