Suns sign Seth Curry to 10-day contract
It's WWE Night in Arizona on Wednesday, and it appears the Phoenix Suns may be trying the oldest trope in the book: Secretly swapping out lookalikes to gain an advantage.
At least, that's one explanation for signing Seth Curry. The Suns could be hoping to swap him out with brother Steph Curry for a key possession, letting them run a multi-layered distraction with the Morris twins (and where you at, Dragic brothers?).
The more likely reason the Suns inked the younger Curry to a 10-day contract on Wednesday is because he's quite deserving of an NBA audition.
Undrafted out of Duke in 2013, Curry has spent the last two seasons in the D-League awaiting his chance. He got brief cups of coffee last season with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Memphis Grizzlies, but totaled just 13 minutes, and he couldn't quite do enough in Summer League with the Suns and Orlando Magic to warrant a deal.
In 36 games with Erie of the D-League this season, Curry averaged 23.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.9 assists while hitting a ridiculous 48.2 percent of his 3-point attempts. That alone - hitting an elite clip on a high volume of triples - should be enough to warrant a look at the end of a bench, and his shooting pedigree speaks for itself.
In Phoenix, Curry could see spot duty at the point or spot up off the ball in one of the team's frequent two-point guard lineups.
