Report: If child is his, Paul George will seek sole custody
Indiana Pacers forward Paul George will seek sole custody of a child alleged to be his, if a paternity test confirms that he is the father.
George was hit with a paternity suit in late May by Daniela Rajic, who later sought sole custody, citing George's lifestyle as an NBA player on the road as the primary reason. Now, George will likewise seek sole custody, according to multiple reports.
ESPN has the details:
According to court documents, George filed for custody because he "has the means and resources to be a fully involved parent and to capably care for the child" and that the mother, Daniela Rajic, "is not capable of the care" as she is "currently unemployed and has refused to seek or gain employment and is dependent upon others for the care of the child."
George's petition would also allow for limited parental time sharing for Rajic.
Basically, George is arguing that he's a more suitable caregiver than Rajic, who would be relying heavily on parental support payments to provide for herself and the two-month-old girl. Rajic's legal team, meanwhile, has said George's claim is "grossly insulting to women," saying the reason Rajic is out of work is because, well, she just gave birth.
George is said to be seeking a paternity test to confirm he is the father, though he has already met the baby and paid the relevant medical bills for mother and child.
It is unclear when the custody trial will commence.
