The NBA is investigating the Twitter battle that developed between New York Knicks' J.R. Smith and Detroit Pistons' Brand Jennings, sources told ESPN.com's Marc Stein.
The feud erupted over Smith's brother, Chris, and whether he deserves a spot on the Knicks' roster. The league is looking into whether the Tweets send back and forth can be considered threatening.
The two teams face each other Tuesday in Detroit.
