Hawks sign Dyson Daniels to 4-year, $100M rookie extension

The Atlanta Hawks and guard Dyson Daniels agreed to a four-year, $100-million rookie contract extension, his agent told ESPN's Shams Charania.

The reigning Most Improved Player averaged 14.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and a league-leading 3.0 steals in 76 games. The Australian's 229 steals last season were the most since Gary Payton had 231 in 1995-96.

Daniels, 22, was also named to the All-Defensive first team.

The Hawks acquired him in a trade with the New Orleans Pelicans last offseason, shipping out Dejounte Murray in exchange for a package that included Daniels and two future first-round picks. The Pelicans drafted Daniels eighth overall in 2022.

The Hawks finished the 2024-25 regular season with a 40-42 record and were eliminated by the Miami Heat in the play-in tournament.

Atlanta's had a busy summer, landing Kristaps Porzingis from the Boston Celtics in a three-team trade that included the Brooklyn Nets. The Hawks also acquired guards Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Luke Kennard in free agency. Clint Capela and Larry Nance Jr. were among those to depart the team this offseason.
