Report: Suns trade 2031 1st-rounder to Jazz for 3 future picks

The Phoenix Suns are trading their 2031 unprotected first-round pick to the Utah Jazz for three first-rounders, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania.

The Suns are acquiring the least favorable first-round picks in 2025 between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Minnesota Timberwolves and the least favorable first-round picks in 2027 and 2029 between the Cavs, Timberwolves, and Jazz, Charania adds.

The move triples Phoenix's tradable first-round picks.

Adding more draft capital is one of the steps the Suns needed to complete to trade for disgruntled Miami Heat veteran Jimmy Butler, a source told Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald.

The Heat are likely to receive picks and at least two players in a trade for Butler, which could include at least four teams, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. The Milwaukee Bucks and Toronto Raptors could also have interest in Butler, Winderman adds.

The Jazz are consolidating their first-round picks available with the trade. They acquired ten selections from the Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert trades with the Cavs and Timberwolves. With the additional Suns pick in 2031, Utah has 11 first-round selections in the next seven drafts.
