Report: Wizards hire ex-Pistons GM Weaver as senior adviser
Former Detroit Pistons general manager Troy Weaver is joining the Washington Wizards' front office as a senior adviser, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
After four seasons with the Pistons, Weaver will reunite with Wizards president Michael Winger and general manager Will Dawkins. The trio worked together on the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Pistons parted ways with Weaver after hiring New Orleans Pelicans general manager Trajan Langdon as their president of basketball operations. Detroit offered Weaver a role transfer in off-site scouting, but he declined.
Weaver acquired young talent for the Pistons - including drafting Cade Cunningham, Jalen Duren, and Ausar Thompson. However, Detroit went 74-244 over four seasons.
Weaver's eye for player evaluation and development were part of the Wizards' rationale for hiring him, according to Wojnarowski.
Washington went 15-67 last season, ranking 14th in the Eastern Conference. The franchise will pick second overall in this week's draft.
