Clippers promote Redden to GM, Hughes to senior VP

The Los Angeles Clippers are promoting Trent Redden to general manager and Mark Hughes to senior vice president and assistant general manager, the team announced Monday.

"For the past six years, Trent and Mark have been trusted evaluators, dependable leaders, and, for me, close confidantes. Today, we're thrilled to reward them," president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank said in a statement.

The promotions of Redden and Hughes are a result of the Washington Wizards hiring former Clippers general manager Michael Winger in May.

Both executives served as assistant general managers in the past and will continue to report to Frank, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. Redden and Hughes had reportedly been offered promotions with other franchises in recent years.

Redden spent 11 years with the Cleveland Cavaliers before joining the Clippers' front office in 2017, winning a title with the Cavs in 2016. Hughes, a former assistant coach, also joined the franchise in 2017 after four years with the New York Knicks as a scout and director of player personnel. He also played at Michigan, winning a national championship in 1989.

The Clippers were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Phoenix Suns this season. L.A. has a single conference finals appearance since the franchise acquired Kawhi Leonard and Paul George in 2019.
