The Phoenix Suns are finalizing a deal to hire veteran coach Frank Vogel as the franchise's next bench boss, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.

Vogel's contract with the Suns will be for five years and $31 million, Charania adds.

Phoenix parted ways with Monty Williams after four seasons at the helm. The Suns were eliminated from the Western Conference semifinals two years in a row, and their final losses were both blowout defeats.

The Detroit Pistons reportedly hired Williams at the end of May on the largest coaching contract in league history, a six-year deal worth up to $100 million with incentives.

Vogel reportedly beat out four other finalists for the position, including former Philadelphia 76ers head coach Doc Rivers, Sacramento Kings assistant Jordi Fernandez, and current Suns assistant Kevin Young. The other finalist, Nick Nurse, was hired by the Philadelphia 76ers in May.

The Suns are hopeful that Young will be part of Vogel's staff, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Vogel helped lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a championship in 2020. He also made stops with the Indiana Pacers and Orlando Magic, bringing the former to the Eastern Conference finals in 2013 and 2014.

With Vogel's hiring in Phoenix, the Toronto Raptors are the only team that hasn't hired a new coach.
