Report: Knicks, GM Scott Perry part ways after 6 seasons

The New York Knicks and general manager Scott Perry are parting ways after six seasons, sources told Ian Begley of SNY.

Perry, who's on an expiring contract, is exploring other options, Begley adds.

The executive had been the Knicks' general manager since the 2017-18 season. He was originally hired by Steve Mills, who the team fired in 2020.

Leon Rose, who replaced Mills as Knicks team president, signed Perry to a multi-year deal in 2021.

Rose remains the lead decision-maker in New York's front office, which also includes former Minnesota Timberwolves president Gersson Rosas as a senior basketball advisor.

New York went 47-35 last season. The team defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round for its first series victory since 2013.

Alongside Rose, Perry oversaw several key decisions in recent years.

In 2020, the Knicks hired head coach Tom Thibodeau, who won Coach of the Year for the 2020-21 campaign.

They then re-signed Julius Randle to a four-year, $117-million contract in 2021. Randle made his second All-Star appearance and earned All-NBA honors last season.

In 2022, New York signed Jalen Brunson to a four-year, $104-million deal. The dynamic guard had a career year with the club last season, averaging 24 points and 6.2 assists.

The Knicks enter the offseason with nearly their entire playoff rotation under contract. Thibodeau is also in place as head coach through the 2024-25 campaign.
