Luka Doncic makes NBA history with 60 point triple-double vs. Knicks
Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic recorded a career-high 60 points, 21 rebounds, and 10 assists in a 126-121 win over the New York Knicks on Tuesday night.
Doncic's performance is the first 60-point, 20-rebound, 10-assist game in NBA history, according to ESPN's Stats & Info.
The Mavericks were down nine points with 33 seconds remaining when Doncic scored six points, including the game-tying basket off an intentionally missed free throw.
"I'm tired as hell," Doncic said postgame. "I need a recovery beer."
Doncic's record-breaking performance generated a ton of ridiculous stats and numbers that deserve some analysis.
1 - Doncic sits alone in the NBA history books with at least 60 points - which is also a new career-high - 20 rebounds, and 10 assists in a game.
2 - He joins James Harden as the only players in league history to record a 60-point triple-double. Harden achieved the feat as a member of the Houston Rockets against the Orlando Magic on January 30th, 2018, putting up 60 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds.
3 - Doncic has the most 50-plus-point performances in Mavericks history, with all three coming in 2022. He scored a then-career-high 51 points against the Los Angeles Clippers in February and recently dropped 50 on the Houston Rockets on Dec. 24.
4 - Four triple-doubles in league history reach at least 50 points and 20 rebounds, according to ESPN. Wilt Chamberlain achieved the feat twice, recording 53 points, 32 rebounds, and 14 assists in 1968, as well as 51 points, 29 rebounds, and 11 assists in 1963. Lakers great Elgin Baylor put up 52 points, 25 rebounds, and 10 assists in 1961.
7 - Doncic notched his seventh triple-double of the season during Tuesday's performance, tying him for first with Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic, according to Statmuse.
23 - At 23 years old, Doncic is the youngest person to record a 60-point triple-double. Harden was 28 when he recorded his milestone.
27 - The Mavs had 23 points from the 27-second mark in the fourth quarter. Doncic scored or assisted on 16 of them to lead Dallas to victory, according to the Mavericks.
53 - Dirk Nowitzki had the last franchise record in scoring against the Houston Rockets on December 2, 2004.
