Guard Sam Merrill goes No. 1 in G League draft

The Cleveland Charge, the Cavaliers' G League affiliate, selected former Memphis Grizzlies guard Sam Merrill with the No. 1 overall pick Saturday in the 2022 G League Draft.
Merrill spent the NBA preseason with the Sacramento Kings but was waived before the start of the regular season.
Other notable selections include former Houston forward Taze Moore heading to the Texas Legends with the ninth pick and former Yeshiva University guard Ryan Turell landing with the Motor City Cruise with the 27th pick. Turell is trying to become the first Orthodox Jewish player in NBA history, according to NBA reporter Marc Stein.
