Potential No. 1 pick Chet Holmgren declares for NBA draft
Gonzaga freshman and potential top pick Chet Holmgren is entering the 2022 NBA draft, he announced Thursday.
The 7-footer came into the season as the No. 1 recruit in the 2021 high school class and lived up to expectations for the top-ranked Bulldogs, earning consensus All-American second-team honors.
Holmgren put together an impressive all-around season stat line of 14.1 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 3.7 blocks on 61% shooting from the field and 39% from beyond the arc.
"After a season where we accomplished a lot of great things as both a team and an individual, I feel like I'm in a position to be able to chase my lifelong dream to play in the NBA," Holmgren told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
With big-man length and guard skills, Holmgren has a unique playing style. However, at under 200 lbs, he will need to put on weight in order to withstand the rigors of the NBA game.
Holmgren is one of just two players in college basketball history to record at least 115 blocks and 40 made 3-pointers in a season.
