Report: Vogel still on hot seat after Lakers' victory over Jazz

Despite the Los Angeles Lakers picking up one of the best wins of their season on Monday, head coach Frank Vogel's job is still in jeopardy, sources told The Athletic's Bill Oram and Sam Amick.

While the Lakers pulled out an impressive 101-95 victory over the Utah Jazz, the team's recent cold stretch and overall poor season reportedly remain a talking point within the organization.

As a result, the team's front office has put pressure on Vogel, who won a championship with the team in 2020, and is reportedly evaluating him on a game-to-game basis.

Things reportedly reached a tipping point following Los Angeles' 37-point loss to the Denver Nuggets on Saturday - the team's third straight defeat. Magic Johnson tweeted his disappointment with the team's performance, LeBron James refused to speak to the media, and Vogel apparently narrowly avoided being fired.

The Lakers sit seventh in the Western Conference at 22-22, and despite the injuries, roster changes, and COVID-19 challenges within the franchise, the front office has made it clear the team's performance has not been good enough.

Although Monday's win was a step in the right direction, that level of performance will reportedly need to be a trend in order to save the 48-year-old's job.
