Washington Wizards third-year power forward Rui Hachimura has been excused from the start of training camp for personal reasons, the team announced Saturday.

The team offered no exact timeline for Hachimura's return. Training camp begins Sept. 28.

The Japanese national has been a steady presence in the Wizards' rotation since being selected ninth overall out of Gonzaga in 2019. Hachimura averaged 13.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game last season with career-best 32.8% shooting on 3-pointers. His 1,797 regular-season minutes ranked third on the team behind only Bradley Beal and the since-traded Russell Westbrook.

Hachimura started every game he appeared in, including the postseason, where he finished with back-to-back 20-point games in Washington's first-round series loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.
