Report: Collison working out with Warriors

Retired NBA point guard Darren Collison will have a workout with the Golden State Warriors this week, sources told Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes.

The 34-year-old last appeared as a member of the Indiana Pacers during the 2018-19 campaign. He averaged 11.2 points, six assists, and 3.1 rebounds per game that season, one year after leading the NBA with 46.8% accuracy on 3-pointers.

Since retiring two summers ago to focus on his family and faith ("I am one of the Jehovah's Witnesses and my faith means everything to me," he wrote in an essay for The Undefeated at the time), Collison has remained a person of interest for West Coast contenders.

While apparently mulling a comeback in 2020, Collison was spotted courtside with Los Angeles Lakers owner Jeanie Buss; he opted against signing with the team, which proceeded to win that year's championship in the Disney World bubble.

Collison was also reportedly among a group of veteran players, including Isaiah Thomas and Mike James, who worked out for the Lakers recently. Los Angeles is, however, reportedly expected to ink point guard Rajon Rondo to a one-year contract.

The Warriors will enter the 2021-22 campaign with little proven depth behind two-time MVP Stephen Curry. Among Golden State's backcourt reserves are Jordan Poole and a trio of players on non-guaranteed contracts: Mychal Mulder, Gary Payton II, and Damion Lee. Nico Mannion, the team's No. 48 pick in 2020, signed a multi-year deal in Italy.
