Blake Griffin has been an NBA superstar. He's been a focal point of perennial playoff teams and had his face on the marquee. He once jumped over a car.
Now, having officially signed with the Brooklyn Nets after coming to a buyout agreement with the Detroit Pistons over the weekend, the soon-to-be 32-year-old's list of professional desires is narrowly focused.
"My only goal is to help win a championship," Griffin said in an "Ask Me Anything" hosted by Bleacher Report on Monday. "Some years it's more realistic than others. But that's why I came to Brooklyn."
Despite the fact that stars Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving have appeared together in just seven games, the Nets own the league's fourth-best record at the season's halfway mark. Brooklyn's 24-13 (.649) mark trails the East-leading Philadelphia 76ers by just half a game.
Griffin, whose production in recent years has been significantly hampered by injuries, sees an opportunity to fill a role in the Nets' frontcourt as he aims to win his first NBA title.
"They have a need for a four-man," he said. "I've always had a lot of respect for (Nets head coach) Steve Nash and all of the guys that they have. (General manager) Sean Marks has done (a) great job there. It was a tough decision and I wanted to be on a team that was contending."
