The Los Angeles Lakers have waived guard Quinn Cook, reports The Athletic's Shams Charania. Meanwhile, center JaVale McGee will exercise his $4.2-million player option for 2020-21, according to Charania.
Cook made 44 regular-season appearances on last year's title-winning squad. The 27-year-old averaged 5.1 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in 11.5 minutes per game. He shot 36.5% on long balls and 46.5% within the arc for an overall effective field-goal rate of 49.8%.
Cook's $3-million salary for 2020-21 was only guaranteed for $1 million. The Lakers achieve modest savings by waiving him before the full guarantee date.
On the way to his third career title, McGee put up 6.6 points, 5.7 boards, and 1.4 blocks in just 16.6 minutes per game, starting all 68 of his appearances in the regular season.
