Report: Suns discussing acquiring Paul from Thunder

The Phoenix Suns are looking to revamp their backcourt in a major way.

The team is discussing potentially acquiring Chris Paul from the Oklahoma City Thunder, although no deal is imminent, ESPN's Brian Windhorst and Tim Bontemps report.

Paul enjoyed a stellar debut campaign in Oklahoma City. The 35-year-old averaged 17.6 points, 6.7 assists, and five rebounds en route to earning his first All-Star selection since 2016. A healthy Paul started 70 games and played an instrumental role in leading the Thunder to a surprise playoff berth in a competitive Western Conference.

Oklahoma City is reportedly open to dealing Paul but has also expressed to teams its interest in keeping the point guard for next season.

Pairing Paul with star shooting guard Devin Booker and center Deandre Ayton would substantially improve the Suns' chances of reaching the playoffs for the first time since 2010.

Phoenix put forth an exceptional performance in the NBA's Orlando bubble under head coach Monty Williams, finishing with a perfect 8-0 record in seeding games. Williams previously coached Paul during the 2010-11 season with the New Orleans Hornets.

The floor general is owed $41.4 million in 2020-21 and $44.2 million in 2021-22.
