The Dallas Mavericks are in pursuit of a third star player, with only Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis off limits in a potential trade, sources told the Dallas News' Brad Townsend.

The Mavericks are also reportedly interested in trading into the lottery of the upcoming Nov. 18 draft. Dallas currently owns the No. 18 pick in the first round and the No. 1 pick (31st overall) in the second round.

Though the precise salary cap and luxury-tax threshold for the 2020-21 season have not yet been agreed upon by the NBA and the National Basketball Players Association, Dallas is unlikely to possess the financial flexibility to add a marquee player via free agency when the 2020 offseason begins.

The Mavericks do have a number of players who could prove valuable to opposing teams, however.

Assuming Tim Hardaway Jr. opts into the final year of his contract, the 28-year-old shooting guard will be on an expiring deal worth just under $19 million. With a potentially star-studded 2021 offseason on the horizon, the timing of Hardaway's deal could prove to be a major asset to a team looking to clear or maintain cap space.

Guards Seth Curry and Delon Wright and big man Maxi Kleber are rotation-caliber NBA players under team control for multiple seasons. Each is making equal to or less than $9 million per season over the length of their respective deals.
