Fresh off capturing his first NBA championship, Dwight Howard and the Los Angeles Lakers have expressed mutual interest in a new deal, The Athletic's Shams Charania reports.

However, the Golden State Warriors are among contenders expected to be interested in luring Howard away from the Lakers this offseason, Charania adds.

The three-time Defensive Player of the Year primarily occupied a reserve role behind JaVale McGee in Los Angeles' frontcourt rotation, serving as an important rebounding and shot-blocking presence.

Howard averaged 7.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks in 69 regular-season contests. The 34-year-old helped close out the Western Conference finals against the Denver Nuggets with strong performances in Games 4 and 5, then started in five of the six Finals games.

The veteran big man has bounced around the league quite a bit recently. If Howard were to sign with a new team, he'd be joining a sixth organization in as many seasons.
