Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies was named 2019-20 NBA Rookie of the Year on Thursday, the league announced.

The 21-year-old point guard blew away the competition for the award, finishing with 99 of a possible 100 first-place votes. New Orleans Pelicans sensation Zion Williamson finished third, and he received the only other first-place vote.

That didn't sit well with Morant.

"I need to figure out who was that person who didn't pick me first," Morant told reporters. "I want to shoot a direct message to them, and thank them for motivating me even more."

"If anybody knows who that is, let me know," he added.

Kendrick Nunn of the Miami Heat finished second in the voting, while Morant's teammate Brandon Clarke was fourth.

While Williamson's candidacy was hurt after missing 48 games, Morant put together a stellar first season, averaging 17.8 points and 7.3 assists in 67 appearances. He also helped lead the Grizzlies to the Western Conference play-in game last month.

Morant, who was the second pick of last year's draft behind Williamson, is the first Grizzlies player to win Rookie of the Year since Pau Gasol in 2001-02.
