As guest editor-in-chief, Carmelo Anthony has helped launch a special July 4 issue of SLAM magazine aimed at addressing racial inequality and systemic racism.

The Portland Trail Blazers forward is featured on the magazine's cover with his son, Kiyan. All proceeds will be donated to charities supporting the Black community.

"This platform is not only for basketball - we're not only basketball players at the end of the day," Anthony said Saturday during a recent appearance on "Good Morning America." "So having this platform through the lens of basketball and sports, I felt it was very important that we send our very deliberate message to the world."

Contributors to the special issue include Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes, and former NBA veteran Stephen Jackson, among others.
