3 members of 76ers organization test positive for COVID-19
Three unspecified members of the Philadelphia 76ers organization tested positive for COVID-19, the team announced Thursday.
It's the fifth franchise with at least one confirmed case of COVID-19, following the Utah Jazz, Detroit Pistons, Brooklyn Nets, and Denver Nuggets.
The 76ers hosted the Pistons in their final game before the ongoing suspension of the NBA schedule. Detroit power forward Christian Wood is among the NBA players who have tested positive to date.
According to the 76ers' statement, medical experts and the league recommended testing certain players, coaches, and basketball operations support staff. The tests were purchased privately.
The NBA has received criticism in recent days - including from New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio - due to players and team personnel accessing screenings for the COVID-19 virus while there is a shortage of tests in many jurisdictions. NBPA executive director Michele Roberts redirected blame for the shortage of test kits to the U.S. government.
