Report: Nets moving Dinwiddie to bench

The struggling Brooklyn Nets are shaking up their starting lineup.

Guard Spencer Dinwiddie will move back to a bench role, beginning with Saturday's game against the Detroit Pistons, Stadium's Shams Charania reports.

Garrett Temple or Caris LeVert is expected to replace Dinwiddie in the starting unit, Charania adds.

Dinwiddie is in the midst of a breakout season for Brooklyn, averaging a career-high 21.5 points and 6.5 assists per game in 43 contests, including 32 starts.

The 26-year-old signed a three-year, $34-million extension with the Nets in December 2018. The final year of his deal contains a $12.3-million player option.

Brooklyn has dropped to the Eastern Conference's eighth seed after losing 12 of its last 14 games, including five straight. Kyrie Irving's return to the lineup on Jan. 12 hasn't helped matters much, as the Nets have lost four of five contests the star guard has played in since then.

Irving made headlines Jan. 16 following a loss to the Philadelphia 76ers when discussing the state of the Nets' roster, saying postgame, "It's glaring, in terms of the pieces that we need in order to be at that next level."
