Curry says he 'wanted to go to New York' in 2009 draft

It's hard to fathom how different the basketball landscape would look if Steph Curry got his draft night wish in 2009.

Now a three-time NBA champion and two-time MVP with the Golden State Warriors, Curry said his original desire was to join the New York Knicks.

"I wanted to go to New York and thought I was going to New York," Curry said during an appearance on Showtime's All The Smoke podcast. "In the draft, in the green room, like, 'Oh, get to the eight spot and New York can get me' and then I got the call from (former Warriors general manager) Larry Riley, like 'Alright, we're going to pick you in the seven spot.'"

New York drafted big man Jordan Hill with the eighth overall pick after the Warriors selected Curry seventh. Hill averaged 7.9 points and 5.8 rebounds over the course of his eight-year career.

Meanwhile, Curry helped lead Golden State to a prolonged run of success that culminated in five consecutive trips to the NBA Finals.
