The Minnesota Timberwolves will be without their leading scorer for Friday's game versus the visiting Washington Wizards. Small forward Andrew Wiggins has been ruled out due to a personal matter, the team announced Friday.
According to the Star Tribune's Chris Hine, Wiggins' brother, Nick, said Thursday on Twitter that their grandmother had died.
Wiggins' family learned of her passing during his 40-point outing versus the Golden State Warriors on Nov. 8, according to The Athletic's Jon Krawczynski.
Wiggins, the No. 1 pick in the 2014 draft, is enjoying his most successful season to date. Through 11 appearances, the 24-year-old is averaging 25.9 points with an effective field-goal percentage of 53.5%, along with 5.1 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.1 blocks per game - all career highs.
Thanks in part to Wiggins' progression in his sixth NBA season, the Timberwolves enter Friday's game with a 7-4 record, good for the sixth seed in the Western Conference.
