Miami Heat guard Dion Waiters had a medical emergency on the team plane Thursday, according to Fox Sports 640's Andy Slater.

Following Slater's initial report that Waiters had a seizure after overdosing on "gummies," sources told ESPN's Brian Windhorst and Adrian Wojnarowski the 27-year-old actually suffered a panic attack after consuming a THC-infused edible.

THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is a chemical component found in cannabis that is responsible for the substance's intoxicating effects.

Waiters missed Thursday's game against the Phoenix Suns with what the Heat labeled as a "stomachache." According to ESPN, Waiters ingested the edible in an effort to calm his upset stomach. He was subsequently ruled out for Friday's contest against the Los Angeles Lakers due to illness.

The Heat suspended Waiters for the opening game of the campaign due to "unprofessional conduct," then left him back in Miami to work on his conditioning during a two-game road trip. The eighth-year player has not appeared in any of the team's nine games to date.

Waiters is in the third season of the four-year, $52-million contract he signed in 2017 and can earn an additional bonus of $1.1 million if he appears in at least 70 games this year. The Heat, who fell to 6-3 with Friday's loss to the Lakers, have 73 games remaining on their schedule.
