Report: Porzingis re-ups with Mavs on 5-year, $158M contract

Kristaps Porzingis and the Dallas Mavericks have agreed to a five-year, $158-million contract, league sources told The New York Times' Marc Stein.

The New York Knicks drafted Porzingis No. 4 overall in 2015, and the 7-foot-3 Latvian immediately made his presence known as a floor-spacer and rim-protector. Through his first three seasons, he averaged 17.8 points, 7.1 rebounds, and two blocks per game while shooting 36.1 percent from beyond the 3-point arc.

However, shortly before what would have been his first appearance in the All-Star Game, Porzingis, who will turn 24 at the beginning of next season, sustained a torn ACL in his left knee Feb. 6, 2018. As a result, he missed the rest of 2017-18 and the entirety of the most recent campaign.

Facing uncertainty about Porzingis' free-agency decision, the Knicks traded him along with Tim Hardaway Jr., Courtney Lee, and Trey Burke to the Mavericks in exchange for DeAndre Jordan, Dennis Smith Jr., Wesley Matthews, and a pair of first-round draft picks in January this year.
