Report: Celtics showing interest in Kemba

The Boston Celtics are emerging as a potential landing spot for the Charlotte Hornets' free-agent All-Star Kemba Walker, according to The New York Times' Marc Stein.

On one hand, Walker has signaled his continued commitment to the Hornets organization, going as far as to suggest he would be willing to accept less than a maximum contract extension with the team.

But with the market for All-NBA-caliber players thinning out in recent weeks thanks in part to serious long-term injuries suffered by Golden State Warriors stars Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson during the NBA Finals, Walker appears to be generating plenty of interest among teams hoping to make a splash. The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly targeting Charlotte's all-time leading scorer as their next blockbuster addition after acquiring Anthony Davis in an unofficial trade earlier this month.

Boston faces the possibility of losing both six-time All-Star Kyrie Irving and five-time All-Star Al Horford to free agency this summer, but that doesn't necessarily spell the end of the team's competitive window. Despite significant roster turnover in recent years, Boston has managed to average more than 51 wins per season since the start of 2015-16.
