After going undrafted, St. John's point guard Shamorie Ponds will play in the summer league with the Houston Rockets, a source told ESPN's Jonathan Givony. The structure of the agreement apparently remains undecided.

A born-and-bred New York City point guard, Ponds was a three-year starter for his hometown Red Storm, averaging 19.5 points, 4.3 assists, and 2.3 steals in 96 collegiate games.

What the analysts are saying

  • "(The) fact that he can move the D and either hit pull-ups with range or find the open man off a live dribble gives him an NBA skill."
    - Jonathan Givony, ESPN
  • "Small stature with mid-tier athleticism and quickness. He makes a ton of tough shots, but at his age, you'd hope he'd create more separation."
    - Kevin O'Connor, The Ringer
