Curry: Raptors 'disrespectful' to leave Iguodala open for late 3-pointer

Andre Iguodala had been anemic from beyond the 3-point line dating back to the Western Conference finals. Entering Game 2 of the NBA Finals, the Golden State Warriors forward and 2015 Finals MVP had missed 11 straight attempts from deep over his previous four outings.

The Toronto Raptors thus elected to double-team superstar point guard Stephen Curry on defense in the dying seconds of Sunday's contest. That decision proved fatal, as a wide-open Iguodala splashed a 27-footer with seven seconds on the clock, effectively sealing the Warriors' eventual 109-104 win.

"The whole fourth quarter they were playing some janky defense, just trying to send bodies to me everywhere, and our whole roster just took advantage of it," Curry told ESPN's Doris Burke when asked about Toronto's late-game coverage. "Over the course of the game, it's kind of disrespectful to leave Andre Iguodala open like that. With the game on the line, he's made big shots like that before, and he got it done tonight."

Asked about Curry's comments at his postgame media availability, Raptors head coach Nick Nurse justified the team's decision to focus its efforts on pressuring the two-time MVP.

"We weren't disrespecting anybody. We were up guarding hard, and we put two on Steph and he almost threw it right to Kawhi (Leonard) right? Pretty good defense," Nurse said. "They were scrambling around, running around like crazy. Then they found Iggy ... If he's going to take that and give us a chance to get the ball back and win the game, we're going to probably live with that.

"It wasn't like we were disrespecting (Iguodala) and not trying to guard him. We were going to trap and rotate out of there ... I'd like to go back and try that again about 10 times and see if one of them doesn't go our way."

Nurse won't have a chance at a do-over on Game 2. Instead, the Raptors now turn their attention to Game 3, slated for 9:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday as the series shifts to California.
