With a third Sixth Man of the Year award likely in his future, Lou Williams' bid for a spot in Springfield at the end of his career should continue to gain steam. At least, according to Williams.
"I've seen guys in the Hall of Fame with less. I've put the work in," the Los Angeles Clippers guard told TMZ on Tuesday night. "But who knows. That's years down the line. I've put a lot of work in so it would be nice to even get that appreciation."
The favorite to take home the hardware for a second straight season, Williams could become just the second player to win Sixth Man of the Year on three occasions after Jamal Crawford earned the nod in 2010, 2014, and 2016. He'd also be the first to win it in back-to-back campaigns since Detlef Schrempf in 1991 and 1992.
Williams currently has a 0.0004 percent chance of making the Hall of Fame, according to Basketball-Reference.com. That figure ranks 79th among active players.
The 32-year-old veteran finished the regular season averaging 20 points, three rebounds, and 5.4 assists on 42.5 percent shooting for the 48-34 Clippers. Williams is averaging 14.2 points per game for his career across 14 seasons with six different teams. He's never made an All-Star team or captured a championship.
